When
an earthquake hits, Mackenzie and two of his co-workers are forced to
take shelter in a refuge chamber three miles below ground, uncertain of
the damage around and above them. Weighing their options, the three must
decide whether to stay put or take their chances climbing to the
surface, though making it to ground level is just half of the battle.
Max
and Lorenzo are strangers who have crossed paths under the most dire of
circumstances – the need to survive. With the earth nothing more than a
wasteland and solar radiation a constant threat, the two of them set
out for a place called Hope Cavern, an underground city where people
have taken refuge. Making the journey north, however, they realize there
is a price to pay for companionship.

I like stories to stand alone with a good ending.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the book, the plot. I love a story that touches me, that makes me think. A good author can pull off a questionable ending

Sounds like your books give a great adrenalin spike!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Kevin!
Thanks. If there's one thing I'm known for, it's surprise endings. Only a couple of my stories are neatly tied together at the end (one being my upcoming crime/mystery work Broken Family), but all of them can stand alone. I like it when the reader wants more at the end. I get a lot of "you should make this into a novel" comments because people want me to keep writing the story. I've even had people write reviews saying that they loved the story up until the end. Someone was going to give me five stars for Three Miles Below, but they ended up giving me three stars because they hated the ending. They wanted more and felt cheated, but that's the way I write. I like to shock people and make them think.
DeleteBoth stories look exciting, and at the same time filled with real people.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Caitlyn. I'm proud of these two stories, but I think my upcoming releases are even better. I will be holding giveaways for them later in the month.
DeleteIn answer to your question, I like a story that stands alone but at the same time, if I've read one, I like to see echoes of it in the sequel, whether that is in revisited places, a quick recap of the characters' histories, or coming across characters I got to know earlier. But it's nice when you pick up a book to be able to enjoy it without having had to read the ones that came before.
